Memorial High School Media Center

Manchester, NH

Manchester Memorial High School was constructed in 1960 to service a student population of 900+. With the population approaching 2000, the school had set out to address its core facilities: administrative offices, guidance department, science labs, and its library/media center.

Located near the center of the building, the only possible area for expansion of the existing library was within an open courtyard, upon which the library and cafeteria looked out. This proved to be an asset, as large windows to the courtyard and skylights contribute to the appeal of the space.

In addition to the new library, the new and expanded space includes a conference room and two teaching stations for library science and computer skills. All of the study carrels and many of the tables are equipped with power and data connections for computer use.

The bright, new library attracts students who use it not only for research but also as a quiet study and lounge.
